Up and Down The River – Movie Screening and Discussion with Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel

Saturday, September 19 3:00PM Hybrid program – In person and via Zoom Up and Down The River is a short movie based on the struggles of Mohegans in the American Revolution. Focusing on the family of Samuel Ashbow, Jr, the first Native American to be killed during the Revolutionary War. Co-written by Mohegan Council of Elders Vice Chair Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel and her daughter Film Director Madeline Sayet, the film features Native actors from many different tribal communities. Join Melissa Tantaquidgeon Zobel and IAIS staff for a screening and discussion about the making of this film and the sacrifices all Mohegans had to make to preserve the future of the Mohegan Nation and the newly forming United States.
