8 Week P.M. Wheel Intro with Brett Binford

Tuesdays – 8 week series! Dates: October 20, 27; November 3, 10, 17, 24; December 1, 8 Time: 6:00–9:00 PM Instructor: Brett Binford Ever wanted to try the pottery wheel? This is your chance to get your hands in the clay and learn the fundamentals of throwing with ceramic artist Brett Binford. This eight-week introductory course is designed for beginners and those looking to build confidence on the wheel. Brett will guide students through the basics of preparing clay, centering, opening, pulling walls, shaping, trimming, and developing their own forms. There will be plenty of time to practice, experiment, make mistakes, and discover what the clay can do. With decades of experience as a ceramic artist, educator, gallery owner, and co-founder of Portland’s Mudshark Studios, Brett brings both deep technical knowledge and a working artist’s perspective to the studio. His experience ranges from individual studio ceramics to large-scale production and some wonderfully unusual projects—including helping create commemorative pieces for Olympic athletes. Whether you’ve never touched a pottery wheel or you’re ready to refresh your skills, come spend your Tuesday evenings getting comfortable with clay and discovering the satisfying (and occasionally hilarious) process of making something with your own hands. Class size is limited. Advance registration is recommended.
