Six Week A.M. Ceramics Introductory Wheel Throwing with Brett Binford

Dates: Thursdays, October 22, 29; November 5, 12, 19; December 3 Time: 8:00–10:00 AM Instructor: Brett Binford Start your Thursday with clay, coffee, and the pottery wheel! This six-week introductory wheel course with ceramic artist Brett Binford is a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of throwing. Students will learn the basics of centering clay, opening and pulling, shaping vessels, trimming, and developing good wheel-working habits—all while getting plenty of time to practice. Brett brings extensive experience as a ceramic artist and longtime member of Portland’s ceramics community. He is a co-founder of Mudshark Studios, a nationally recognized ceramics production company, and has been involved in teaching, exhibiting, and supporting the ceramic arts for decades. This class is designed for beginners, but anyone looking to strengthen their wheel skills is welcome. Expect plenty of clay, lots of practice, useful instruction, and the occasional reminder that the clay has a mind of its own.
