Become a Volunteer Tutor and help a Student Improve in reading Our successful Building Better Readers program is expanding to serve struggling readers in grades 5–8 through a new pilot volunteer tutoring program. Volunteers work one-on-one or with a small group of youth once or twice per week, during or after school, in person or virtually, to help strengthen reading skills. Volunteers choose the schedule that works best for them. Classroom Tutoring Tutor middle school students in reading comprehension during school hours at selected middle schools. Time required: 60- or 90-minute sessions twice a week or partner with another volunteer to each tutor once per week. After School Tutoring Commit to tutoring a student in person, one-to-one, in reading comprehension at the Literacy Coalition’s Blume Literacy Center, at various locations in Palm Beach County, or virtually for two hours a week. A background check is required.Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. The Literacy Coalition will provide tutoring training.
