Sensory Inclusive: Music and Stories with Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra
From publicly posted calendar Checked 7 hours ago
About this event
One of 79 upcoming events at Lone Tree Arts Center, and 2,757 across Denver.
Join members of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra as they introduce the audience to classical music! They will introduce each of their instruments, as well as play a solo and talk a little bit about the instrument. They also make connections between music and storytelling and explore how music can express emotions, characters, plots and settings. At the end of the performance, all the instruments come together and invite the kids to dance and perform along with shakers. What makes these performances sensory-inclusive? These hour long performances are modified to create a welcoming and supportive environment for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities. Performers and LTAC staff work together to ensure there are no startling noises or visually over-stimulating components. Our team keeps sound levels lower than normal and keeps the lights in the audience higher than normal, ensuring audience members can see each other. Audience members are free to come and go if need be (there is always a “quiet room” available) and are asked to wave hands rather than clapping.
