Getting Started with Ancestry.com

Ready to begin exploring your family genealogy? In this one-hour beginner-friendly workshop, trained historian Madeline Feierstein will guide you through the many ways you can utilize the Ancestry.com database for your family tree research! Madeline will share some of her best tips for using the site effectively, and attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions in dynamic discussions. Participants are welcome to bring their laptops, but this is not required. Please note that this workshop is not intended for advanced genealogists. Interested in digging deeper? About the Presenter Madeline Feierstein is an Alexandria, VA, historian and founder of the educational & historical consulting company Rooted in Place, LLC. Madeline is a member of Emerging Civil War and has written for Emerging Revolutionary War, Civil War Monitor, and the National Museum of Civil War Medicine. She leads significant projects on the history of hospitals, prisons, and wartime America. Her first book, Occupied Alexandria: How the Civil War Transformed a Southern City, will be published in Fall 2026 by The History Press. Madeline holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from George Mason University and a Master’s in American History from Southern New Hampshire University.
