OCTOBER 23 The Spruce Woods and Its Folklore, Part One: A talk by Patti and Ricky Brooks
From publicly posted calendar Checked yesterday
About this event
One of 11 upcoming events at Mountain Top Historical Society.
The Brooks will explore the settlement of the upper East Kill Valley of the 19th century, as portrayed by Ricky’s mother, Doris West Brooks, in her acclaimed book, The Old Eagle Nester. With a feeling for the mysterious, coupled with a sly sense of humor, Mrs. Brooks’ stories paint a compelling portrait of life in and around the remote Spruce Woods near Colgate Lake. Antique maps, deeds, survey instruments and chains used to spur settlement of the East Kill Valley wilderness will be displayed. Participants are encouraged to read the book prior to the talk.
