From Mountain Top Historical Society

Sponsored by the Mountain Top Historical Society, the Brooks will lead an interactive hike to explore the environs of the upper East Kill Valley, the remote location that formed the backdrop for the stories of Doris West Brooks’ acclaimed book The Old Eagle Nester. With a feeling for the mysterious, coupled with a sly sense of humor, Mrs. Brooks’ stories paint a compelling portrait of 19th century life in and around the Spruce Woods near Colgate Lake. Participants are encouraged to read the book prior to the hike. Difficulty: moderate, due to length and rough terrain. Bring water and snacks. Wear bright clothing. Location: Meet at the Mountain Top Historical Society, 5132 Rt 23A, Haines Falls to carpool to the trailhead. Time: 9:00 a.m sharp to 3 p.m. More info: Registration required: [email protected] or 518-589-6657
