Enjoy a rare opportunity to explore Mt. Cuba’s stunning landscapes under the cover of the forest canopy to uncover the hidden world of mushrooms. Equipped with expert guidance, you will venture into the field to: Learn the crucial identifying features of our local fungi and discover the essential roles they play in our ecosystems. Hike through Mt. Cuba’s natural areas to scout and spot the incredible fungal diversity hidden along the trails. Discuss immediate, actionable steps you can take to preserve fungal diversity through community science and local land stewardship. Be prepared for a lengthy hike through hilly (sometimes steep) and uneven terrain. Please dress for the weather. This program takes place in-person at Mt. Cuba Center Sunday, October 4, 2026 (Rain Date: Saturday, October 17). About the Instructor: Sam Bucciarelli is a tour guide and environmental educator with a passion for ecology, especially as it pertains to fungi and the role they play in helping our ecosystems thrive. She grew up in the NJ Pinelands, but brought her passion for all things wild to Philadelphia in 2017 and has been sharing that passion with others ever since. She is the current president of the Philadelphia Mycology Club and an outspoken advocate for community science.
