From National Museum of the Great Lakes

July 3 – August 31, 2026 | Museum Hours In partnership with the Great Lakes Observing System Did you know the Great Lakes and their connecting waterways are monitored by hundreds of observing platforms? From buoys and weather stations to water quality sensors, these technologies collect critical data that helps scientists study trends, improve forecasting, and better understand the health of the lakes. Explore the observation and information network that keeps the region informed about what’s happening on the water and discover how this real-time data supports everyone from researchers and commercial mariners to recreational boaters and beachgoers. Presented in partnership with the Great Lakes Observing System, this micro-exhibit offers a behind-the-scenes look at the science and technology that help us better understand and protect the Great Lakes. Included with regular museum admission.
