The Peter Wolfe Chapter (PWC) invites you on a hike in the Ottawa National Forest led by Mark Roberts to visit PWC segments 38 and 39. We will meet at 2 pm EDT at the bridge over the Sturgeon River on Forest Road 2270 and carpool to where the NCT crosses Forest Road 2200. This is a one-way remote hike with minor ups and downs for most of the way until we have a steeper descent into the Sturgeon River Valley at the end. GPS to our meeting place at the Sturgeon River Bridge: 46.671129, -88.721411 There are several pullouts near the bridge where you can park, be sure not to block a side road. Please meet us here at 2 pm so we can consolidate cars to carpool to the starting point further east. If you wish to carpool from the Keweenaw area, meet us at 1:00 pm in Chassell at the Park & Ride next to the Krist station on US41. Some folks may stop to eat in Baraga County after the hike so carpool with those who will be returning home when you want to. We will start our hike at about Michigan UP mile 159.9 where the NCT crosses Forest Road 2200, also called the Clear Creek Road. We’ll hike west to our cars at the Sturgeon River Bridge. You can add 4.4 miles to your Hike NCT 100 mile Challenge if you are keeping track. We will be hiking from the east end of PWC Segment 39 to the west end of Segment 38 (see image). Bring pole(s) if you like to use them, and a snack. Cell service can be limited. Watch the weather, wear appropriate clothing, and bring rain gear if rain is forecasted. We hike rain or shine unless it is really terrible weather. Text Mark at 906-281-2754 or email [email protected] if you have questions. If you are not already a member of the Peter Wolfe Chapter, or would like to help us maintain the NCT, we’d love to have you join us in supporting the trail! We have several segments that need adopters and upcoming trail projects; we could really use your help! Hope you can join our hike! And bring your friends! (If you are considering bringing a group, please contact us first: [email protected]) Mark Roberts, PWC Hike Leader Connie Julien, President, Peter Wolfe Chapter of the NCTA © 2026 North Country Trail Association The North Country Trail Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
