BUY TICKETS AMOUR AND ANNIHILATION Cabaret of Curiosities presents Amour and Annihilation, an evening of French and American art song about immigration, connection, and change — songs crossing borders, and composers and poets finding one another across oceans. Detective Antonin, our music detective, follows the clues: Dvořák discovering America’s voice through his student Harry Burleigh; India surfacing in songs by Rimsky-Korsakov, Milhaud, and Burleigh, and in the Roma melodies of Dvořák’s own Gypsy Songs; a Paris trail linking Satie and Poulenc to Ned Rorem and William Bolcom. Florence Price gives voice to Langston Hughes, the poetry of Tagore and Laurence Hope weaves throughout, and Black and queer artists rise out of the margins. The songs themselves? Simply beautiful. Chitra Raghavan (soprano, co-creator) trained at Kaufman Music Center’s Lucy Moses School and has sung in over fifteen productions with Vertical Player Repertory. She also performs in cabaret as her alter ego, Indi N Tonic. Gavin McDonough (baritone, Detective Antonin, co-creator) has appeared in Grease, Man of La Mancha, and The Crucible — most recently as Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest with the Rockaway Theatre Company. He serves as the evening’s MC and guide. Mimi McGurl (co-creator, director) is a director and playwright (MFA, UC Irvine; PhD, Stanford) whose work includes productions with Farm Arts Collective, the North American Cultural Laboratory, and the WOW Cafe Theatre. Her most recent piece, Lucy Joseph, premiered with Farm Arts Collective in 2025. Giulia Magarelli (piano) holds two master’s degrees — one in collaborative piano from the Milan Conservatory of Music and the other in solo piano performance from the Como Conservatory of Music. She speaks seven languages and has performed in concert venues throughout NYC and Europe. VENUE DETAILS All Sales Are Final.
