About this event

BUY TICKETS The Queen’s Voice will explore gender in opera and art song, exposing stereotypes while turning certain pieces of repertoire on their head. Featuring sopranista Jay St. Flono and pianist Matthew Everingham, The Queen’s Voice will serve as a historical reckoning, contending with opera’s colorful and complicated relationship with gender. Jay St. Flono (sopranista) is a classical singer, actor, librettist and author from Brooklyn, New York. Having performed in both avant-garde and traditional productions, Jay has worked with artists such as Bill T. Jones in “Deep Blue Sea” (2021) and has appeared with NYC Opera, the Unsung Collective at Lincoln Center and in concert as a soloist with the Grace Chorale of Brooklyn and SugarHill Salon. Jay was a 2019-2021 Librettist Fellow with Composers and the Voice (AOP) where they completed the libretto, Spirit in the Vine. Matthew Everingham (piano) is currently a Teaching Artist (Music Direction) for Broadway’s Roundabout Theatre Company as well as a music director and pianist for off-Broadway’s Gallery Players and popular NYC cabaret company, The Randy Andys. Matthew has worked regularly with the international entertainment company Royal Caribbean Productions and various regional theaters around the United States.
