LOCAL AMERICAN LANDMARKS: STOWE HOUSE, FIRST PARISH CHURCH, AND JOSHUA CHAMBERLAIN MUSEUM A 250th Anniversary walking tour of three iconic buildings and their connections to our national story Sunday, August 30, 1-3PM From Harriet Beecher Stowe writing Uncle Tom’s Cabin on Federal Street to Bowdoin college professor Joshua Chamberlain accepting the surrender of the Confederacy at Appomattox, it is said that the Civil War “started and ended” in Brunswick, Maine. In the middle of it all was Brunswick’s First Parish Church, where Stowe had her vision, Chamberlain found family and faith, and the Abolitionist spirit glowed brightly. This collaborative, three-stop walking tour connects the thrilling and profound stories of these buildings and their people. Site experts will provide context, point out architectural details, and share rarely seen treasures. You’ll have plenty of time to ask questions and take photos.
