Pre-printing and post-printing techniques Description: Gilding for printmakers is a custom designed intensive weekend workshop for experienced printmakers who want to use genuine gold and silver leaf in the printing process. The class will focus on two phases: pre-printing and post printing. We will use genuine leaf, metal leaf mica, and metallic powders. The student does not need gilding experience or special tools to work with the techniques in the class. This class can accommodate most printmaking techniques. Please bring examples of your work and a prepared statement concerning your vision for using gilding in your printed work. Further, bring the master plates or matrices you intend to use, as well as your preferred paper and printing ink. This is a hands-on class: we will be preparing paper and printing images on the first day. The instructor will provide detailed printed notes of all the techniques that will be demonstrated. Additional papers and inks are available at MGC for purchase. In addition to class time, non-members receive 14 hours of additional studio time outside of class. Additional hours may be purchased as needed. To arrange your out of class studio time please email [email protected]. Join as a member for unlimited open studio time, and a 25% discount toward classes. Instructor Bio: Bill Gauthier is a NYC based gilder with 42 years of experience. Bill had designed this class especially for Manhattan Graphics Center in the 1990’s. There are examples of his gilding work all over New York City: the Maine Monument in Columbus Circle is one example, and the Prometheus at Rockefeller Center is another. Cancellation Policy STUDENT CLASS CANCELLATION If a student must drop out of a class, 75% of tuition will be refunded as long as MGC is notified 15 days or more prior to the start date of the class. If a student notifies MGC fewer than 15 days prior, no tuition can be refunded. Materials fee are non-refundable. If MGC cancels the class, registrants receive a full refund or studio credit. 322 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, USA
