with Nazli Efe | 2 sessions This two day weekend workshop offers a contemporary take on the traditional art of marbling, structured into two engaging sessions. In the first session, students will be introduced to the rich history of marbling — a traditional technique of painting on water. Global variations, including Japanese Suminagashi and Turkish Ebru, will be briefly explained. Following demonstrations of various pattern techniques (comb, back-and-forth, swirl, and more), students will create their own marbled designs and transfer them onto paper. Each person will produce at least five unique pieces, which will be dried and used in the following session. This part of the workshop invites a meditative mindset, encouraging students to reflect on control, fluidity, and their interaction with Water as a medium. The second session shifts focus to collage-making. Starting with a showcase of diverse collage examples, this class emphasizes creativity, composition, and bold decision-making. Students will use their previously marbled papers to craft colorful, expressive collages—combining a traditional technique with a modern, dynamic approach. By the end, each person will have created at least two vibrant artworks that explore the balance between surrender and control in the creative process. Materials are provided. Price Tiers: 20% off Labor: $64 Labor: $80 Labor + Materials: $105 **PLEASE NOTE: The second day of the workshop starts 1 hour earlier for a longer session (Nov 7: 3:00-6:00pm, Nov 8: 2:00-6:00pm). This will be communicated in the follow-up email as well.** About the Instructor: Nazlı Efe (she/her) is a New York–based Turkish-Cypriot interdisciplinary artist working across installation, sculpture, and performance, exploring themes of water, memory, and the unconscious.
