2-Day Oil Painting Workshop: Men’s Portraiture Led by Artist Ric Della Bernarda Day 1: Thursday July 16 | 1 PM – 5 PM Day 2: Friday July 17 | 9:30 AM - 1 PM Location: The Commons 46 Bradford Street, Provincetown Cost: $225 Plus $15 model fee payable to instructor Registration: A minimum of 4 students is required for the class to run, max 10 ABOUT THE ARTIST After studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, Ric worked early in his career as a fashion illustrator for major department stores and as a freelance illustrator. Following a 30-year corporate career, Ric fully embraced his passion for painting while living in Ogunquit, Maine and Palm Springs, California, where he currently resides. Ric continues to refine his craft through advanced workshops, including studies at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. He served as Artist in Residence at Cliff House Maine for over four years, maintaining a working studio at the resort and teaching plein air oil painting and acrylic classes for guests. Ric teaches privately and paints several times a year in Provincetown. ABOUT THE WORKSHOP Join Ric for a two-day workshop exploring his classically trained yet contemporary alla prima approach to portrait painting. Through step-by-step demonstrations and detailed instruction, students will learn techniques to simplify the portrait painting process while strengthening their understanding of painting the head and portrait in oils. On day 1, Participants will work from photographs (supplied or bring your own) Students will paint the elements of the face and then learn how to begin and put the elements together. • Several small canvases boards for day 1 studies (min 4) • 6”X8” or 5” X 7” or larger canvas divided into quarters/half • Tone canvases with a light wash of burnt umber or a light warm tone On day 2, the class will work from a live model to create an original oil portrait painting. • Any preference on size, no larger than 16” X 20” board or stretched canvas 12” x 16” / 9” x 12”/8” x 10” • Tone canvases with a light warm wash Some oil painting experience is required.
