Photography Darkroom Orientation

This is a 1-on-1 prerequisite class to using/renting the PWAC Darkroom. Students will learn the setup of the darkroom, introduction to the chemicals used and their safety precautions. Training on using the enlarger, and the process of making a photographic print from negative to print, as well as film development will be covered. Darkroom clean up and safety procedures will be included. Students should bring their negatives or an undeveloped roll of film with them to class. Students will come away with printed black & white photos. When signing up, let us know what date and time works for you. Our current hours are Tues-Fri 10am-4pm. The class should take about 1-2 hours. Meet the Teacher: John Lindroth This is how I learned photography! My best friend had a darkroom in his basement, and he showed me everything he had learned. We spent lots of time taking pictures and developing them. John Lindroth is a studio artist here at Public Works Art Center, currently in studio 7 (downstairs). He is a professional photographer specializing in high-end headshots, individual portraiture. With his passion for both technical precision, artistic value, and human connection, he creates stress-free, enjoyable sessions that bring out his clients’ best. His work blends commercial and artistic photography. His natural and comfortable style ensures that every subject looks and feels their best. He also has a personal interest in fine-art photos. In 2008, he discovered that you can use old lenses on new cameras. The images created with old lenses provide a unique quality, only available with this technique. He will be displaying some prints for sale of close-up imagery of local interests, using film-era lenses on digital cameras, and some of his other favorite fine art photos.
