About this event
One of 73 upcoming events at Rotary Club Of Austin.
@ At a time when many local newsrooms are shrinking or disappearing, Community Impact has built a different model—one centered on the neighborhoods, businesses, schools, governments, and issues that shape people’s daily lives. Join John Garrett, founder and CEO of Community Impact, for a conversation about the evolution and future of local journalism. John and his wife, Jennifer, launched the first edition in 2005 with three employees serving Round Rock and Pflugerville. Today, Community Impact provides hyperlocal news to more than 65 Texas communities through over 35 editions, reaching millions of readers online and more than 2 million mailboxes each month. John will share the story behind the company, the challenges of building a sustainable local-news organization, and why informed communities remain essential to healthy businesses, civic participation, and public trust. Members will also gain insight into how Community Impact is adapting traditional journalism for a changing media environment while remaining focused on factual, relevant, neighborhood-level reporting.
