Happy Thanksgiving — No Meeting Nov. 24

@ The Rotary Club of Austin will not hold its regular luncheon this week in observance of Thanksgiving. As we spend time reflecting on what we are grateful for, we encourage Rotarians to carry the spirit of Service Above Self into the Austin community. Whether you volunteer, make a donation, participate in a local tradition, or simply check in on a neighbor, there are many ways to make the holiday more meaningful. Here are a few opportunities to consider: Run or walk the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot Start Thanksgiving morning with the 36th annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot at the Long Center. Choose from a timed or untimed five-mile event, a one-mile walk or run, a Kids K, or a virtual option. The 2026 event takes place Thursday, November 26, and 100% of the proceeds benefit Caritas of Austin. Registration opens September 1. Serve with Operation Turkey Operation Turkey brings volunteers together to prepare, package, and deliver Thanksgiving meals to people experiencing homelessness and others in need. Austin-area volunteers can assist with setup, cooking, plating, packaging, cleanup, and meal delivery at locations in Northwest, Downtown, and South Austin. Opportunities are also available during the Turkey Tailgate on the day before Thanksgiving. Support the Central Texas Food Bank Help ensure Central Texas families have nutritious food during the holiday season. Members can register for warehouse or food-distribution shifts, organize a food or fundraising drive, or make a financial contribution. Holiday volunteer opportunities can fill quickly, so members are encouraged to register early—or choose a shift after the holidays, when volunteers are still greatly needed. Help Caritas of Austin create a home for the holidays Caritas of Austin offers opportunities to serve meals in its Community Kitchen, assemble care kits, support donation pickups, contribute needed household supplies, or make a gift supporting neighbors experiencing homelessness. Reach out to someone who may be alone A phone call, shared meal, grocery delivery, or invitation to join your celebration can make a meaningful difference. Service does not always require a formal volunteer shift—sometimes it begins by noticing who might need connection.
