About this event
One of 73 upcoming events at Rotary Club Of Austin, and 1,430 across Austin.
@ The Rotary Club of Austin will not hold its regular luncheon this week in observance of the Christmas holiday. As we celebrate the season, we invite Rotarians to find a meaningful way to share kindness and put Service Above Self into action. Whether you give your time, fulfill a holiday wish, support a local nonprofit, or reach out to someone who may be alone, even a small act can make the season brighter. Here are a few ways to give back in Austin: Fulfill a holiday wish through Angel Tree The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program connects donors with local children and families who need support during the holidays. Participants can adopt an “angel,” purchase requested clothing and gifts, make a financial donation, or volunteer to sort, organize, quality-check, and distribute presents. The Austin program expects volunteer needs from the fall through late December. Support Operation Blue Santa Austin Police Operation Blue Santa provides toys and food to thousands of Austin families during the holiday season. Community members can donate, help sort gifts in the warehouse, or volunteer during family pickup and distribution activities. Help feed Central Texas families The Central Texas Food Bank offers opportunities to sort and prepare food, assist at mobile pantry distributions, support senior food-box programs, organize a food or fundraising drive, or make a financial contribution. Holiday shifts may fill quickly, but the need continues throughout the winter and into the new year. Help a neighbor move toward stability Caritas of Austin welcomes volunteers to prepare and serve lunch in its Community Kitchen, assemble hygiene and winter-care kits, help furnish apartments for people moving out of homelessness, and donate household necessities from its wish list. Create your own act of holiday service Invite someone to share a meal, deliver groceries to a neighbor, write cards to residents of a senior community, thank a first responder working over the holiday, or support a local cause that matters to you. Service does not have to be large or formal to be meaningful. However you celebrate, we wish every member of our Rotary family a peaceful, joyful, and service-filled holiday season.
