RETREAT Beginner Quilters Academy (Attic Window – Half Square Triangles) Wednesday & Thursday, November 4 & 5, 2026 10:00am – 5:00pm Cost: $229 (snacks, drinks, and lunch included) Instructor: Maggie Emmens Please call to reserve your seat and space is limited. 603-373-0151. Quilters Academy is a two-day event just for beginner quilters — like a mini retreat, with learning, sewing, and camaraderie so you can learn and create a complete quilting project specifically selected for beginner quilters. Every session of Quilters Academy features a different skill but always includes the basics of quilting. Learn to measure, cut accurately, sew a quarter-inch (¼”) seam, and piece a quilt block; then sew all the blocks together into a quilt top; then learn about the quilt sandwich, quilting on your domestic sewing machine (or hand quilting, if you prefer), and trimming; and finally making and attaching the binding. Would you like to learn basic quilting techniques, like the Half-Square Triangle (HST)? By adding a rectangle and a square, we will make the eye-catching Attic Window block. Have you ever wondered what you could make with a Layer Cake* and some background fabric? This pattern uses just one Layer Cake to create a lap quilt (approximately 36” X 45″). On Day One we will create the quilt top and on Day Two we will quilt and bind it. Fabric Requirements: One Layer Cake 1 yard background fabric at least 42” X 52″ batting 4 yards backing fabric 1/2 yard binding fabric Tool Requirements: Sewing machine in good working order, with a new needle (extra needles, if needed). Please remember the foot pedal and power cord! ¼” foot or tape to mark a ¼” guide line on the machine Walking foot Rotary cutter, with a new blade (extra blades, if needed) Pins and needles, pin cushion Thread (coordinate with fabric) Scissors and/or snips Cutting ruler (6” x 24”) Seam ripper Note taking materials (eg., notebook, paper, pen/pencil)
