From The Portland Yoga Project

Sunday, November 15, 2026 from 12pm-4pm with Rebecca Ketchum at PYP DOWNTOWN Description: While most yoga classes focus on the poses, the yogic tradition offers much more. Yoga's history and philosophy are complex, offering a rich foundation for engaging mindfully with the world. Through discussion, close readings, and lecture, we will unpack various aspects of yoga philosophy, focusing primarily on Patanjali's Yoga Sutras. Throughout the workshop, we will explore how somatics intersects with the postures, breathwork, the idea of the "self", and mindfulness practices built into Patanjali's system. Participants should expect to move, breathe, and discuss from a "beginner's mind" perspective. Come ready to move and please bring a journal. Who is this workshop for? Anyone interested in yoga and philosophy, including both students and teachers. It serves as a great refresher for those with 200-hour certifications or an excellent introduction for beginners. About Rebecca: Rebecca’s interest in the philosophy of yoga has led her to study with Manorma, Seth Powell, Michael Stone, and Rhagav-ji, among others. While she understands that Patanjali's Yoga Sutras are not yoga’s only important text, she sees them as a great point of entry into the complexities of yoga philosophy. Rebecca acknowledges that she teaches from an etic (outside of the culture) perspective, and she addresses issues of cultural appropriation and the history of injustices that accompany yoga. In addition to teaching yoga at Kula, Rebecca is on the faculty of several yoga teacher training schools around the world.” (Learn more about Rebecca here!) Early Bird Pricing: $85 (before 10/31) & $100 after all workshops are non-refundable/
