About this event
One of 57 upcoming events at Tucson Symphony Center.
The TSO concludes ¡Fiesta Latina! with a Día de los Muertos concert. Rooted in Mexican culture, Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a centuries-old holiday honoring ancestors and loved ones who have passed. Families create ofrendas (altars) with photos, candles, and keepsakes to welcome their spirits back. The concert opens with Venezuelan composer Inocente Carreño’s Margariteña, written to celebrate his homeland. Later, singer and songwriter Edna Vazquez performs original compositions including Sola Soy and Sana, along with cultural favorites such as Bésame Mucho and others. Vazquez will be joined by Mariachi Aztlan and Folklorico Los Guerreros de Pueblo High School. I played Margariteña with the Youth Orchestra at least 100 times, including once in Panama when we performed it with Mahler’s First Symphony.
