Summer at Van Vleck – Collage Art

Partner Program with the Montclair Institute for Lifelong Learning Thursdays, July 16 – Aug 20, 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM July 30 – Collage Art – Unplug and make something unexpectedly beautiful. In this hands-on collage class, we’ll be using natural materials from the Gardens, and turn them into your personal masterpiece. Learn about composition, texture, color and layering, while using leaves, petals, moss, bark seed and other found objects. No art experience needed – just curiosity and desire to play and turn found objects into a one-of-a-kind piece of art to treasure. Aug 6 – Qigong – Through careful balancing forms and gentle breath awareness, you’ll connect to your body’s wisdom in the natural beauty of the Van Vleck garden. No experience necessary; bring a yoga mat or towel and an open mind. Instructor: Jodi Brooks. Aug 13 – Drought Resistant Plants – Join us for a walking tour of the drought resistant plants thriving in the gardens of Van Vleck and learn why they are so tolerant of our New Jersey summers. Instructor: Laura Roberts, Director of Horticulture Aug 20 – Guided Nature Walk – Spend an afternoon in the gardens of Van Vleck with Volunteer Naturalist Jenny Aley. Search for birds and other animals, as well as the signs they leave behind. Learn interesting facts and information about the wildlife we share our backyards with.
