Poetry in the Parklet

Poetry in the Parklet An outdoor community gathering where poets and writers come together to read, write, and share. Each event features a local poet who reads their own work and leads participants through a guided free-writing session using original prompts. The event closes with a community open mic, capped off by a final reading from the featured poet. The series also includes a poetry contest open to the community — winners receive a gift certificate to the Muse Writers Center, read their poems at the September Poetry in the Parklet event, and have their work displayed in the ViBe Parklet on 18th Street for a full year, beginning October 2026. The ViBe Parklet is a long linear parklet on 18th Street between Cypress Avenue and Mediterranean Ave in Virginia Beach Wednesdays 6 pm – 7 pm  April 22 with local poet Alison Schoew May 27 with local poet Isabel Hoin  June 24 with local poet Kindra McDonald Greene  July & August – submit poetry for content September 23 – Awards with local poet Bill Glose
