North Texas Landscaping: Beauty Meets Practicality

Creating a beautiful landscape in North Texas comes with unique challenges—from intense summer heat and unpredictable weather to clay soils, drought, and water restrictions. Master Gardener Donna Smith will share practical approaches to designing and maintaining landscapes that are both beautiful and well suited to our region. Donna has gardened in several different parts of the country and brings a broad range of experience and training to the topic. A Master Gardener, she has completed the Earth-Kind® Landscape Management course through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and is also a Certified Citizen Forester. Donna holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Biology/Exercise Physiology from the University of North Texas and has pursued a variety of careers over the years, although she says her volunteer activities have brought her some of the greatest joy. During the presentation, Donna will cover plant selection and placement, soil preparation, water-wise practices, and seasonal maintenance, along with tips for creating a landscape that can thrive in the North Texas climate. Whether you’re starting from scratch or looking for ways to improve an established yard, you’ll come away with practical ideas you can put to work in your own garden.
