Date & Time: Saturday, April 4 | 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM EST Join us for Sugar Bush Care Day, part of our Nuestros Bosques Forest Care Day series, where neighbors come together to care for the trees and green spaces that make our communities healthier and more resilient. This event focuses on caring for the maple grove—also known as the Sugar Bush—along the Woonasquatucket River. Together we’ll help steward this urban woodland while learning more about local forest ecology and the importance of healthy tree canopy in Providence. Volunteer activities may include: Planting native trees and understory plants Mulching and caring for existing trees Litter clean-up along the Greenway Crafts and hands-on nature activities for kids Nuestros Bosques events are designed to be community-centered and family-friendly. Sometimes we’re working hard, and sometimes we’re just vibing—giving back to the land, sharing food, and celebrating with neighbors. Food and refreshments will be available, and all tools and supplies will be provided. Closest parking: 90 Salmon Street, about a ¼ mile walk to the event site. Signs will guide you along the Greenway. Alternative: Park at Merino Park and walk across the bridge to the site. Accessible to anyone able to use the bike path Closest public restroom is about a 10-minute walk away Family-friendly — children welcome with a parent or guardian Water and snacks provided Low physical strain / beginner friendly Bilingual event leaders (Spanish and English) This event is part of the Nuestros Bosques Event Series, a program focused on forest stewardship, outdoor learning, and community engagement in Providence. Participants explore local woodlands, care for neighborhood trees and understory plants, and connect with the natural environment together. Join us for Nuestros Bosques Forest Care Days, a series of community volunteer days dedicated to caring for neighborhood trees and green spaces in Providence. Throughout the season, we’ll travel to different sites across 02909 and 02908 to support the health of our growing urban forest. These gatherings bring neighbors together to care for the trees that shade our streets, cool our neighborhoods, and make our communities stronger. Volunteer tasks will vary by location and need. Together we may remove invasive plants, pick up litter, water young trees, spread mulch, and help maintain the spaces where our trees grow. These days are also designed to be family-friendly, with activities for kids and opportunities for everyone to get involved. Nuestros Bosques Forest Care Days are about more than just tree care—they’re about building community. Sometimes we’re working hard, and sometimes we’re just vibing: giving back, sharing food, and celebrating with neighbors. Events are free, bilingual (Spanish and English), and open to everyone. Food will be available, and all tools and supplies will be provided. Please dress for outdoor work, including comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection. Bring water and anything else you need to stay comfortable.
