Hear from experts who will overview the three OPAS conservation initiatives included under the “Bird-Friendly Communities” umbrella: North Olympic Wildlife Habitat Project focuses on inviting a diversity of bird species through habitat creation and restoration of outdoor spaces. Project BirdSafe focuses on reducing bird collisions into windows through the use of window designs and treatments—as well as protecting birds from domestic cats and other potential predators. Lights Out! focuses on reducing pollution caused by artificial light pollution at night (ALAN) during peak migratory periods in the spring and fall in collaboration with DarkSky International, Olympic Peninsula chapter. Come spend a little time over Labor Day Weekend at the River Center learning how to create bird-friendly spaces. Also, join us as we give a warm welcome to Christie Lassen taking the podium to become the new host of OPAS Backyard Birding! Admission is free. However, we suggest a donation of $5.00 per person to support ongoing OPAS education and conservation programs. Creating a native plant garden—Photo: Evan Barrientos/Audubon
